Routine Care Abroad

If you are a Â鶹´«Ã½ student eligible for the GeoBlue insurance plan, you can see doctors or get medicine while you are traveling or studying in another country. This plan helps you get care for things like colds, injuries, mental health, or prescription refills.

How to Find a Doctor

Use the GeoBlue App or Website (Member Hub):

  1. Register at or download the GeoBlue app.
    • Use Â鶹´«Ã½’s group code: GTB9999NWBKT for students or QHG9999NWBTY for employees.
    • If you receive an error message, please refer to the International Health Insurance FAQs for troubleshooting steps.
  2. Find a doctor near you.
    • Use the "Provider Finder" to look up doctors or clinics that speak English and are part of the GeoBlue network.
  3. Contact the doctor to make an appointment.
  4. You may also seek care from a healthcare provider outside the GeoBlue network, but you will need to pay up front, save receipts and seek reimbursement for care.

Paying for Your Appointment

  • If you use a GeoBlue doctor, you may not have to pay at the time of the visit. This is called Direct Pay.
  • After you make your appointment, request Direct Pay using the GeoBlue app or website.
    • Request this at least 2 days (48 hours) before your visit.
  • If Direct Pay is not arranged or if the doctor does not accept it, you will need to pay up front, save receipts, and seek reimbursement for care.

24/7 Remote Medical and Mental Health Services

Students abroad have access to free, confidential support for both physical and mental health concerns.

  • Medical Care: Consult with a licensed physician via phone for common, non-emergency issues such as colds, rashes, or stomach problems.
  • Mental Health Support: Speak with a professional counselor in your preferred language. Up to six private sessions are available at no cost.

Both services are accessible through the GeoBlue app.

  • Select “Talk to a Doctor” for medical care
  • Visit the “Wellness” section for counseling

For full instructions, visit Remote Care Services.

Getting Medicine (Prescriptions)

  • If you need a new or refill prescription, you will need to visit a local doctor first.
  • Then, go to a local pharmacy and show your GeoBlue ID card; some pharmacies will require payment up front.
  • Use the “Medicine Equivalents” tool on the GeoBlue app to find the local name for your medicine.

Plan Ahead for Your Health

If you take medicine regularly or have a pre-existing health condition, you can talk with a GeoBlue nurse before you leave:

  • Learn how to keep up with your care abroad.
  • Get help making a health plan for your new country.
